Colombian Empanadas were one of the first items on our menu at Café de las Américas over 40 years ago. They are a staple Colombian street food and ideal at any time of the day. You can grab them for breakfast on-the-go or eat them as evening appetizers.
Our Colombian beef empanadas are made from cornmeal pastry pockets stuffed with a flavourful beef and potato filling. The empanadas are deep-fried and served with a warm dipping sauce.
The name empanadas come from the Spanish word “empanar” which means to wrap something in pastry. The origin of empanadas can be traced all the way back to a cookbook published in Catalan, Spain in the 1500s. The triangle pastry was introduced to various countries through colonization, all of which now have their own twist on the deep-fried snack.
